The other night I was talking with a friend how an apparently meaningless and thoughtless choice can change a life forever. She is walking on the side of a city street when she hears a beep from her purse. She decides to take a quick look at the screen of the phone to see who’s thinking of her. She does it plenty of times, just a glimpse, probably not even a second. In that exact moment, a driver sees an empty spot to park and steers abruptly on the right to take it. The car hits her on the side. The hit isn’t strong, just a touch. Because she’s distracted, she loses her balance and falls hitting the ground with her head.
