"So the world is going on, and the creative life of the world is always happening. We get to watch it, and if we choose to, we could participate. But if we don't participate, it goes on."
I already shared these words from Rick Rubin in a previous apple about the choice to participate in the creative process.
Before that choice, however, there is another choice we must make: we must choose to open up to that creative life happening everywhere, inside and outside us.
I was walking along the river last Sunday, allowing my thoughts to flow with the water. I remembered something I heard from Peter Hawkins the week before. He said that it's not the team that finds its purpose but the purpose that makes the team. I couldn't agree more. As I shared before, we can't find our purpose; we can only make ourselves available so it can find us.
I was thinking of all these things when the river nudged me: "What if it's the same with ideas?"
As Rubin said, the creative life of the universe is always happening. Possibilities are constantly looking for someone to actualize them. They whisper their callings until someone hears them and chooses to respond.
Being creative is about making ourselves available, being open to the possibilities and being willing to respond to their beckoning.
