Authority wants peace more than justice.
I came across them in the comments section of a video depicting a school bullying scene from a movie. A fellow viewer shared a story about how he once stood up to bullies in his school, only to be dismissed by the principal. The comment concluded with a poignant observation: authority often prioritizes peace over justice.
These words resonated with me in a way I can't quite explain. It's as if they were a beacon of truth in a sea of comments. I've always believed that inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places, so I made sure to jot them down.
Initially, I thought of the many times I saw authority in its many forms - parents, teachers, bosses - seeking peace over justice. So many times, I saw small injustices downplayed to avoid stirring the waters.
As I pondered over these instances, a question arose in my mind: what does peace truly mean? Is it merely the absence of conflicts and unrest, both within ourselves and in the world around us?
No, it must be more than that.
So, what is peace for me?
I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and contemplate this question for a few seconds until an answer emerges.
To me, peace is the experience of unity and oneness.
What is peace for you?
