#1447 - χαρμολύπη
χαρμολύπη, or harmolipi, is a Greek word describing the feeling of being happy and sad at the same time. I can't remember a word with a similar meaning in Italian or English.
I discovered this word yesterday, reading the comments to a song on Youtube that made me cry and rejoice simultaneously. As soon as I saw it, I had to save it and quickly search for more.
I thought about this post I wrote a month ago. I often feel such a mix of contrasting emotions, but I didn't have a word to describe that feeling.
And here it is in the comments section of a video on Youtube.
It is such a powerful word in itself that I can't think of anything I can add.
If you ever felt that way, you get it immediately.
It does not need explaining.
So, here's your word to start this week.
χαρμολύπη
(Pronounced /xaɾ.moˈli.pi/)
