I've been playing with AI to generate poems on the last few Saturdays. My approach was to feed the AI with the content of the "apples" I wrote in the previous five days and then ask for a poem. Then, I tweaked it until I felt it was good enough to publish.
It was fun, and I thought it could be a way to learn to write poems.
However, I learned or discovered two things through this process.
The first is that I never thought about the environmental cost of my little game. AI systems require a great deal of computing power and electricity. Being kind to people and the environment is one of my values, so I prefer to use AI for more worthy pursuits. And sure, me not using it for this little game once a week won't make a big difference, but I believe even the tiniest action matters.
Second, after almost two months, I have yet to write a line of poetry of my own. So, even if it's a quick way to deliver a result, it's not an effective strategy for me to learn. So, I'll find another way.
