We all come into this world with extraordinary and unique potential. Then, from the very first breath, we unknowingly join a process that squeezes that extraordinariness into an ordinary box. Until we fully convince ourselves to be as ordinary as the box we live in.
It's a box made of the beliefs and stories we quickly acquire from the culture in which we are born, the teachings we receive, and the positive and negative life experiences. Before we can even realize it, our very own ordinary box is built. So we can all fit in the ranks and have our place in an orderly world.
Have you ever seen images of the square watermelons?
Japanese farmers thought traditional watermelons took up too much space and were too complicated to store and transport. So, they decided to grow square ones. Easier to store and handle.
The idea is quite simple. Square watermelons are grown in glass boxes, forcing them into a cube shape.
We do the same things with human beings. We squeeze their extraordinariness into an ordinary box. By doing that, we waste their ability to bring their extraordinary, unique gifts into the world.
To become extraordinary is not a process of addition. It is, instead, the subtraction of the beliefs and stories that compose the invisible ordinary box in which we are squeezed. So we can awaken and unleash our extraordinary human potential.
