The Other Question
#2148

“So, Fabio, what do you want from your life?”
A friend asked me, late in the evening. A standard question. One we ask ourselves all the time.
I told him he had just made me realize I wanted to turn it around.
What does life want from me?
It’s a completely different question. One that can’t be answered just by sitting in a room, thinking.
The answer isn’t inside. It’s out there. In life itself.
To explore it requires a different kind of effort. Not deeper reflection, but deeper attention.
The next day, I went to meet someone for the first time, through a common friend. I brought him my book.
In the office beside us, some of his colleagues were holding a meeting on the same topic as the book.
I ended up sitting in that meeting, with people I had never met before.
I didn’t know any of them.
But I knew I was in the right room.
