One Apple A Day #954 - the last straw
It is the last straw that breaks the camel's back.
Or it's the last drop that makes the cup run over.
Whatever is your favourite proverb, the idea is the same.
When a camel is fully loaded or a cup is full, a small thing like a straw or a drop is sufficient to create a large and sudden reaction.
Like when an apparently insignificant event causes a major fight in a relationship.
When something like this happens, it's easy to overestimate the importance of that last event. In the end, it is the one that tipped the scale.
But what about everything that happened before? The load we put on the camel's back over the months or years? A single straw is so light that we overlook the impact it has on the total weight. It's so tiny to be insignificant when not completely invisible.
When something fails or breaks, we must be aware of not falling trap of the "last straw" game and instead use the opportunity to explore everything that happened before.
