One Apple A Day #933 - create your own reality
"You create your own reality."
How often have you heard or read this phrase or a similar one?
But does it mean for real?
When I was a kid, I wanted so intensely to fly. I used to jump from the balcony of the first floor because I knew that my flying superpower would awake sooner or later.
It didn't, at least for now.
So, do I really create my own reality?
I believe so, just maybe not in the way we think.
If we look at other ways of expressing the same concept, we can see its real power. The Buddha said, "What you dwell upon, you become." And in the Talmud, we can read, "We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are."
What I read here is a loop. We see the reality filtered through the lenses of our conditioning and beliefs. Then, that perspective of reality drives our behaviours, how we show up in that reality. Reinforcing our perspective and, in the end, creating our reality.
I recently witnessed an example.
If you don't trust someone, you will behave accordingly. The other people, feeling your distrust, will, in turn, adapt their behaviours. That will confirm your idea that you can't trust them. Without realizing it, you're trap in a self-confirming loop.
You just created your own reality.
So, to me, that phrase is an invitation to expand my awareness.
