One Apple A Day #903 - Let go
Every time I sit down to write, I hope to create something inspired, smart, and articulate. I am aware that somebody will read it, so I want to entertain and gratify my readers. I want to give them the best that I have.
And it's not only when I write.
This desire to create a worthwhile outcome often emerges when I'm doing something that I'll share with others.
However, after years of doing this morning practice, I realised that this understandable desire to create a memorable outcome has a dark side.
And it can get in the way of the exact result I want to achieve.
When my mind is focused on the outcome I want to achieve, I'm not fully present in what I am doing. A part of me is continually checking what is emerging with the desired outcome.
It is only when I let go of this desire, of the need to create something worthwhile, that words begin to flow. When I let go of my expectation of how the outcome should be, I'm making the space for what wants to emerge.
The real purpose of this practice, then, is not to improve my post's quality but to work on the quality of my presence.
That means that I may not always give the best that I have, but for sure, I do my best to give the best that I am.
