One Apple A Day #913 - doing from being
If you need to have a leadership role to be a leader, or if you need to do a manly thing to be a man or a brave act to be a courageous being, are you really a leader, a man or a courageous person?
Yesterday I was thinking about how often we do things only to prove to ourselves and others that we are the type of person who, we believe, would do those things.
We have some beliefs on how a leader should behave, or a man should act, and so on. So we focus on those behaviours, so we can feel that person. And I believe it's because deep inside, we have doubts.
At least I know I often do it when I have doubts.
When I'm not sure about myself in a situation, I behave as I think a confident person should act in that situation.
The results are obviously poor.
My behaviours lack authenticity, and I'm always left with a sense of failure.
When I know who I am. When my doing is rooted in my being, I don't have to prove anything to anyone. I am authentic.
The feeling that I should or shouldn't do something is a good sign that I need to work on my inner strength.
