One Apple A Day #882 - Hardwork
I have a conflicting relationship with "hard work".
I am well aware that to achieve anything in life, you have to do the work. Sure, luck exists. But in most cases, the road to what you want is a sweaty one. However, I saw too often the price to pay when working hard becomes the only metrics. I know people who measure themselves and others by the amount of work they do. The more the work, the more the praises.
The focus goes mostly to the quantity because it's the easiest thing to measure, the most visible one.
To me, working hard does not mean working a lot. It means putting everything I am in what I'm doing. Working hard is rewarding because at the end you feel you've given everything.
I am a lazy guy, but I give everything when what I do is meaningful to me.
When I'm doing something meaningful, I can even forget about time passing. I can work harder and longer.
A quick closing note even if my fifteen minutes slot is gone. This morning words didn't flow. Maybe it's the subject or the antibiotics, or I'm just not inspired. It happens. And when it happens, the outcome of my writing practice is not so rewarding. Some days, like today, I'm tempted to hit the delete button and try again the day after. But then I remember why I do this, the meaning of this practice. It's about reminding myself every morning that I am an author. And authors publish. That's it. Working hard also means pushing through the bad days so you can move closer to your meaningful goal.
