One Apple A Day #872 - Action
I am a reflective person. I love thinking through things, explore them in my mind or conversations with others.
However, thinking and talking about something doesn't make it happen.
Often, my extended reflections are just a game I play with myself to avoid taking action.
Yes, being a reflective person means also being aware of my shortcomings, and that's a useful thing, but still do nothing, and that's the less useful thing.
Maybe it started when I was a child when I discovered that in my mind, I could be and do everything while out there, my actions were not so successful. Or perhaps when as a teenager I've learned that if you do nothing, you can't make mistakes. And I can't say I like making mistakes.
Or maybe it's just my natural inclination.
Whatever the reason, for a few years now, I've been studying and learning techniques and systems to drive me into action. I found out that creating habits is what works better for me, more than planing or creating sophisticated todo-list.
When working with others, I'm experimenting doing something, even the smallest action, before the end of the conversation. And it works, it sets things in motion before I had the change to go back to my ruminating world.
