One Apple A Day #853 - Self-Awareness
Self-awareness is, at its core, the ability to see ourselves clearly—to understand who we are, how others see us, and how we fit into the world around us.
The definition above comes the book Insight: the power of self-awareness in a self-deluded world, by Tasha Eurich. One of the best book on the subject that I read and that I highly recommend.
This is a fundamental strength to develop. Eurich says that self-awareness is the meta-skill of the twenty-first century.
Without self-awareness, any other strength can quickly become a weakness without us even realizing it.
So, I would say that if there is a place where you should start to improve anything in your life, it is your self-awareness.
The more I know, the more I realize I know nothing.
Socrates
That is the paradox of self-awareness. If you are self-aware enough, you are aware that you'll never be self-aware enough.
Self-awareness is more of a process or a journey than a destination. Because any time you see yourself a bit more clearly and understand yourself a little more, that awareness changes you.
There was a time in my journey of self-discovery, in which I thought I could know me. I could find the answer to the question "Who am I?".
The truth about myself.
I was self-delusional.
Truth is, there isn't one truth.
There is not one single endpoint to this journey of self-discovery.
It is instead an intricate, chaotic, and evolving universe.
When I realized that, the journey became way more exciting.
