One Apple A Day #850 - Prudence
When I picked the strength card with the word "prudence" on it, I was a bit perplexed. It isn't a much-celebrated strength as far as I can recollect.
I can't remember stories about prudent pirates or cautious heroes.
We usually celebrate the bold and the courageous ones, even the foolish. At least, the ones that succeed.
But the prudent?
However, I have the feeling that more often than not, prudent people may not be celebrated, but they are rewarded. They are the ones we have to thank for the well-made plans, for being prepared before unexpected troubles, for having resources when things are tough.
Through this exploration, I'm learning that the difference between strength and weakness is often tiny.
But nobody has just one strength; we are a unique mix in which different strengths balance each other. It's when we lose that balance, that some strengths can turn into weaknesses.
Prudence, without some courage, can make us fearful. Courage, without prudence, can make us reckless.
What's fascinating is that often we create that balance outside, connecting with people whose strengths balance ours.
