One Apple A Day #848 - Persuasion
Persuasion is the ability to induce someone to believe something, not by authority, force or fear but by exercising reason. Through persuasion, we pull others into our perspective on things, so that they will act not for us but themselves.
Sure, there is a thin line here between persuasion and manipulation. While the first has the best interest of everyone at heart, the second is driven by more selfish intent.
So, I would say that the secret of persuasion lies in the ability to listen. To truly listen to others, so that you can understand their motives, desires but also their language. In a way, to convince someone to embrace your perspective, you first need to know, understand and acknowledge theirs.
The people I know who exhibit this strength have two common traits; they all are excellent listeners and observers, and they have a clear, compelling vision. I witness them persuade others using very few words; just being fully present and asking powerful questions.
So, I think to develop this strength is less about learning some "techniques" and more about working on our intent.
