One Apple A Day #844 - Critique
When I first saw the card with the word "critique" my first reaction was to pass on this and pick another one. How can critique be a strength?
However, I made a commitment to myself, plus I love challenges, so let's take a look at this strength.
On the card, this strength is described as the ability to bring in alternative perspectives to any situation. The word has its roots in the Proto-Indo-European word krei meaning "to sieve," thus "discriminate, distinguish."
With these two bits of information, I can see the power of having such strength.
Critique is then the ability to see reality with a different filter, one that allows catching alternative perspectives, explanations and options. The ones that often hide in plain sight.
However, it is a tricky power that must be used with plenty of awareness.
We should always ask ourselves what the intention behind our critiques is.
Do we want to truly serve the recipients, or are we just pleasing our ego?
Critique can be of great value for the recipients because it helps them see their reality from new perspectives. However, if it doesn't come from a place of love, it may activate their defensiveness.
