One Apple A Day #840 - Open-minded
Being open-minded is indeed a vital strength.
We all have access to an almost infinite amount of knowledge, so it's easy to convince ourselves that we know the truth.
And once we have the truth in our hand, we close down to protect it.
How many people have this need for absolute truth?
Reality is complex, with so many facets and nuances. And it's not easy to deal with this complexity because it sparks a lot more uncomfortable questions that resolutive answers.
So, I understand the desire for the absolute truth. One that makes everything simple and straightforward.
Unfortunately, as we can read on the news and experience in our lives every day, it looks like there are far too many "absolute" truths; a perfect recipe for conflicts.
I have the feeling that this desire to simplify reality is making things a lot more complicated.
The bottom line is that reality is a complex interweaving of information and perspectives. When we accept that, and we keep our minds open, we can see the beauty and richness of this complexity.
And maybe, that would make our life a little simpler.
