One Apple A Day #65
Please, meet Carlo.
Carlo is the son of immigrants, his father is Italian and his mother is Vietnamese. The Vietnamese legacy is pretty evident in his features. The monolid eyes, the straight black hair, they make it look like someone who just landed from Saigon.
But when he talks it’s all about Italy. Despite being born and having studied in the UK, he has a strong Italian accent. He’s English is perfect but there are no doubts about his origins when he opens his mouth. And the gestures, his hands never rest while he speaks.
Carlo studied in the best schools; he has a degree in computer science and a master in management. He is fluent in four languages; English, Italian and Vietnamese, as you would expect, plus Spanish because he felt in love with a girl from Madrid when he was a teenager.
He is also perfectly fit. No too muscular, not too slim. Just right. He trains three times a week in a gym, plus he goes out running every weekend. He eats the right food, a well-balanced diet six days a week. Saturday is his cheat day. The lunch with the family is a tradition and he can’t say no to any meal his father prepares. Yes, his father is the chef in the house. Saturday evening he allows himself for some drinks.
Carlo works in a big digital company in Holborn. The office takes three floors of a new building 5 minutes from the tube station. It’s the typical agency’s office. A big open space, long white desks, windows all around, some meeting rooms with glass walls, a coffee and relax corner, some fancy stuff around to give the idea it’s a very enjoyable place.
