One Apple A Day #61
You can’t have it all.
When I realised that I wouldn’t have it all, I found the idea scaring and liberating at the same time.
Too often we fall into the trap of the “I want it all” idea. I think it is a direct result of the “everything is possible” idea. When everything is possible, I can do anything. And if I can do anything, I want everything.
The “I can have it all” idea generates two different syndromes. The first is the syndrome of “missing out”. This constant fear that somewhere the best thing in the world is happening and we may miss the opportunity. So, we keep checking our phone. Our emails, social profiles, instant messengers. We react to every notification, worried that it may be the one. In doing so we lose connection with the present, we live a life of waiting without appreciating what we have.
As soon as you realise that you won’t have it all, you are free. You will never have it all, not even if you spend every second checking all the news. So, stop worrying and enjoy what you’re living.
I call the second one the “other line is the faster” syndrome. When you have plenty of choices, you are never satisfied with your choice. You keep wasting your energy on the choices you didn’t pick instead of enjoying the one you made.
