One Apple A Day #54
Lee hides behind a tree. The orcs are coming uphill. He can hear them screaming. He’s the last one, the others have been taken. A young knight of the light against a dozen orcs. They think he’s running, that he is scared. But Lee is not scared. He has the magic sword of fire. He let them follow him in his field. Now he is ready. Waiting for them. He’s going to take them down. One by one.
He’s ready to hit when he hears the croak. The sound comes from somewhere on his left, behind some bushes. How is it possible? He hears the sound again. This is not a orc. It looks like there is a frog. But there are no frogs or toads in this world.
In a moment the orcs disappear, the sword of fire returns to be a wooden stick. The wood is again the back garden of Lee’s house. It’s incredible how quickly the mind of child can jump between worlds. Lee can trasform his garden and create a new universe every day. And it’s not imagination. Those universes are real. The orcs even smell badly. But this croak, he didnt create it.
Lee moves slowly towards the bushes that his father loves so much. He moves the leaves and here it is. A big purple toad. Lee freezes. His eyes wide open. There are no purple toad in his books. The toad life his head and, staring back at Lee, he croak again.
