One Apple A Day #47
“Hey, you can laugh.” There’s a tone of amusement in YKW’s voice. “So, tell me what happened”
A new song started, a female voice this time.
“I get the packet from Pedro and I put it in the inside pocket of my backpack. Then I join Joe at Paul’s pub. The plan was to have a beer or two before going home. But things went sideways. Joe was with this girls and we start talking. He kept bringing beers. We were having fun. Next thing I remember is the alarm waking me up this morning in my bed. Fully dressed. My backpack with me but no packet.”
“Interesting. Did you call Joe?”
“Yes, he told me we were wasted but he doesn’t remember anything.”
“Did he know about the packet?”
“Joe? Yes, I told him. I know I shouldn’t but I was excited and he’s my best friend.”
“mmmh, best friend. I should explain you a thing or two about friendship. But let me show you something before.”
YKW gets up from the couch and goes to a small cabinet beside the coffee machine. He opens it and takes something from inside.
“Take it. Open it.”
Mike stares at the packet in his hands. That packet. It’s here. How is it possible? What happened? Is this some sort of a joke?
YKW senses Mike’s dismay and with a gesture of his hand, he indicates to go ahead and open the packet.
Mike removes the layer of thick yellow paper and uncovers a box.
“Go on, open it”
Inside the box, there’s nothing but a small piece of paper. Mike unfolds it. Unconsciously he reads the message in loud voice.
“Can I trust you?”
