One Apple A Day #46
“I don’t know. It was in my backpack yesterday night. This morning when I woke up it wasn’t there.”
A shiver runs down Mike’s back at every word he throughs out. On the other couch, it looks like YKW doesn’t care. He’s relaxed. To someone looking at the scene from outside, it would look like they are two friends chatting.
“You don’t know. This can be a problem, Mike.”
“I’m so sorry. I don’t know what happened. It was in an inside pocket.”
“Do you know what’s inside the packet?”
“No, I swear. I didn’t look inside. I just put it in my backpack and that was it. I didn’t touch it. And this morning it was gone.”
“Slow down, boy. You look scared. Are you scared of me?”
“Yes, I mean no. Should I?”
The laugh of YKW covered the music. Mike doesn’t know if he should laugh too or if he should run. But run where? His feet are like marble right now.
“Do you know what YKW means?”
“You Know Who?”
“Ah, this is a nice one. Someone with a lot of fantasy once suggested also Young Killing Weapon. Funny, isn’t it?”
Mike is thinking that it’s the least funny thing he ever heard. Who’s this guy? What does he want?
“The reality is that they’re just my initial. Yestin Kareem Warmond. My parents were into all that mystic stuff so they gave this complicated name. In their mind, it was a way to show me the way of a righteous protective warrior. At least that is what those words are supposed to mean. Do you understand why I prefer YKW?”
“Yes.” Mike tries to keep the hilarity away from his face.
