One Apple A Day #45
Mike doesn’t know what to think. He was expecting to find a big tough guy, exuding violence in any words and gestures. Instead, he is now sitting on a couch, with a mug of black coffee in his hand and an average guy sitting in front of him, legs crossed while he does something with his phone. YKW is nothing like he imagined. Mike doesn’t know if he should say something or wait for YKW to talk.
“Got it. This one is perfect. You’re gonna love it.”
The notes from an acoustic guitar filled the air in the garage. Mike can’t see the speakers, it looks like the music is coming from nowhere.
“I love Spotify, to do you use it?”
“Spotify. I … ehm no, I use Deezer.”
“Oh yes, they told me about it. I thought about giving it a try but I have all my playlists already on Spotify, I’m too lazy to change.”
Mike tries to smile. He can’t see himself but he has to be the weirdest smile ever seen on the face of someone.
“So, let’s get down to business. Shall we?”
“Yes, listen YKW, I’m sorry. I don’t know what happened …”
“Wait a minute. Slow down Mike, ok? Let’s start from the beginning. First thing, if you can accept a small suggestion, never start a business conversation with sorry. You’re putting yourself on the wrong side of the deal from the very beginning. Not good. Not good at all.”
Mike is surprised. Nothing is as he expected. He doesn’t know if this is good or if this is getting very very bad.
“Second thing. Our deal. You should have a packet for me from that lazy asshole of Pedro. Right? How do you know that asshole?”
“Pedro? He was in my school, he’s older than me but we played basket together.”
“Oh, I see. I can’t picture Pedro doing any sports. I think he got lazy after the school. Ok, so, where’s my packet?”
“Yes, this what I was telling you. I don’t know what happened last night. I was out with my friend Joe and it was an evening like others and … ”
“My packet, Mike. I’m happy you had fun with Joe but what about my packet?”
“I don’t have it.”
“You don’t. I see. And where it is?”
YKW’s voice doesn’t change. He’s calm, relaxed, not event a flinch of irritation in his face. On the other side, Mike is scared than before. He doesn’t understand what’s happening.
The voice of an old man going on on the background.
“… I will make you hurt…”
