One Apple A Day #393
“Powerful Dilemmas”
The first time I picked this Be The Change card two questions burst in my mind.
Can a dilemma be powerful? And how?
A dilemma is “a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially ones that are equally undesirable”. Or equally desirable I would add.
It may seem a very disempowering situation. One in which we have to choose something and, in doing so, renounce to all the rest.
My dilemma at this moment is about home.
My partner and I are feeling more and more the desire to have a place we can call home. We’ve been living abroad for the last 6 years. We lived in three countries and six different flats. It has been an extraordinary experience, but now we feel the need to slow down and have a place where we can model around us.
And here’s come the dilemmas.
Do I want to live in a city or in the countryside?
Do I want to live abroad or go back to my homeland?
I don’t have any answer yet.
But I can see the power in those dilemmas.
They are both inviting me to look inside, to review my priorities and my values.
And they reminded me that there is not a right answer or, better, that any response is right.
Because I love to stay in a city as much as I love the countryside and nature.
So, I’m transforming these dilemmas into entirely new questions.
How can I enjoy the lively atmosphere of the city while I am surrounded by nature?
How can experience the world while strengthening my roots?
These are, indeed, powerful dilemmas.
