One Apple A Day #371
Talking about principles, I think I may have found a new one this morning.
Start from the body.
Or, if you want to look more acculturate; “mens sana in corpore sano”.
I often underestimate the impact that my physical energy has on my thinking capabilities. Then, in days like Today, my body reminds me that I should always start from it.
Once I read that our brain consumes 25% of our daily calories despite being only 4% of our total mass. That means that when we don’t have enough energy in our body, our mind functions in a kind of “Energy Saver” mode. Like when your phone is out of juice.
All the strategies to manage time and productivity are useless if you have no energy to put some thinking into them.
I didn’t sleep enough. Not enough time and not enough well. As a result, my mind is foggy and sloppy this morning. I was awake at 5 am, but I am so slow that all those hours I gained have gone wasted.
But, I learned two lessons.
The first is to take always care of my energy.
The second is to never fall in love with a plan.
I planned to wake up at 5 am to do my morning rituals. And I tried to stick to that plan because I really want to do this. My morning rituals are so important for the quality of my day. But there’s no point in doing them without being fully present. They are powerless without my energy.
I must learn to be flexible and adapt to the circumstances. Next time, I will take the time to rest more, and I’ll do the rituals a bit later with more energy and better results.
