One Apple A Day #357
“Know who you are because no one is better at being you than you are.” — David Droga
What does it mean to “know who I am”?
Knowing is “the state of being aware or informed”.
Being aware.
“To know who I am” means to be aware of who I am.
It means to be self-aware.
Awareness is built through observation, inquiry, or information.
So, to become aware of who I am, I have to learn to observe myself, to inquiry my thoughts and behaviours and collect information.
Both, observing and inquiring, are not easy when applied to the self.
How can I observe a system, like my life, if I am part of it?
How am I supposed to provide objective information if I am at the same time the enquirer and inquired?
A good solution is to find a mirror. Someone like a coach that can listen without judgement, ask powerful question and mirror back what she observes.
Another solution is to create a system to monitor your behaviours. Your actions speak about who you are more than your thoughts and words. Having some tool to track your activities, will give you powerful insights about who you are.
And you? How do develop your self-awareness?
