One Apple A Day #350
I am amazed by how easy it is to connect with another soul when we focus on the questions and not on the answers, on the needs instead of the solutions.
A friend just came back from three weeks in Russia. He was following his national team at the world cup. When I asked how it was, he told me that Russia is not how I thought. Life in the cities is more or less the same than in any other countries. People work, sell, buy, take care of their families, have some fun. He told me that he realised that, behind the surface of different customs, human beings are the same everywhere. Same needs, same desires, same longing. The solutions may be different.
Then, a few days later, I had an interesting conversation with a Christian pastor. We talked about meaning, about truth, about who we are. And we both realised that, as long as we focus on the questions, we are incredibly similar. We ask ourselves the same things. We have the same doubts. Yes, the answers may be different but that just the surface.
That space from where we source our questions, our longings is what I call the “energy”. The answers, the structures and the solutions we build during our lives are what I call the “configuration”.
When we related with others at the “configuration” level, it’s easy to see the differences, to step into the us-them mode and create boundaries. But if we can connect at the energy level, we can immediately realise that we are all the same, and we all source our energy from the same consciousness.
