One Apple A Day #35
“This is it, Mike. Here is where everything end”
“I don’t understand boss. It’s just an empty room.”
“No, this is not just an empty room. This is the origin and the destination. Here everything started and finished. This room is what we were looking for”
“What are you talking about? We are looking for a killer. I don’t understand. Are you kidding me? Is this one of your jokes?”
“No, Mike. I’m not kidding this time. I don’t know how we missed it when we started. But know it’s all clear.
“We’ve been searching for the wrong thing. All this time we were looking in the wrong direction. It’s human. We see the world for what we are and not for what it really is.
“This is what they teach you in the investigation school. If you want to solve a murder you need to find the motives and follow them until you find the killer. The killer. If you search on the dictionaries they will all say that a killer is a person, man or woman, who killed someone. A person.
“When we started our investigation on the murder of these girls we wanted to find the person who did it.
“The Profiling unit made their usual perfect profile and we started our hunt for him.
“But, you see, this is the problem. We always act on what we know. On what we think it’s logic for our knowledge. So it looks normal for everyone to look for a person. Anyone would have done the same.
“We were wrong. We will never find the person who killed those girls. Because that person doesn’t exist.”
“Hey hey hey, slow down. What are you trying to say? That there’s no killer? Are they all suicides?”
“No Mike. I’m saying there is a killer but it’s not a person. And we just found it.”
“Now you’re scaring me. It? Is the killer a thing? What, a robot like in that movie with Will Smith?”
“No. It’s not a robot. This room is your killer. I’m sorry, Mike. This room killed them all. It will kill us all.”
