One Apple A Day #345
Today I woke up late. It’s still early for this town, but it’s late for me.
Only 6 months ago I used to wake up at 5am.
This morning I woke up at 7 am.
I know, it can happen every now and then. We can’t always be at our peak energy, and there are days when we just need to rest more.
The problem is that this is not an isolated episode. In the last months, I’ve been slowly shifting my start of the day forward. Ten minutes one day, then half an hour. Step by step, without even realising it, the habit that I built with so much effort and commitment, is gone or at least it’s compromised.
What happened?
I wrongly thought that once a new habit is installed the work is done. Mission accomplished.
The new habit is there to stay so you can focus on other things.
I was wrong.
I have natural inclinations that easily come out if I lose the grip on my structures. Inclinations such as spending hours on the couch, watching stuff instead of reading, going to bed late because I have to waste time doing I don’t know what.
I forgot the importance of structures, and I focused only on the goal. As a result, once I achieved the goal, I forgot to nurture the structures I built.
As I wrote before I’m not a “push” person but more a “pull” one. Today I learned a valuable lesson; to achieve a goal I must focus not on the goal itself but on what will get me to there; the process, the structures and the continuous growth.
