One Apple A Day #317
“How does one area feed the other?”
We love boxes, and we like to put things in boxes.
It is how our brain can function amidst the universe of data flowing in through our senses in every moment.
When we need to face something, we put it in one box. Once it is there, we know what to do.
We divide our life into boxes or areas, and subareas and so on. There is work and there is private life. There is the family, and there are friends. There is the mind, and there is the body. Here’s the being and there the doing.
It works. It enables us to make decisions and avoid freezing when facing any circumstances.
But all these areas are not entirely isolated spaces.
They are all connected.
Things flow from continuously from one to the other.
You may divide your life into areas, but you are one.
One and whole.
All the areas and boxes are connected.
Each one feeds or depletes the others.
Thinking that you can enter the office leaving your private self outside, it’s an illusion.
You are a whole.
To live as if the areas of your life are disjoint leads to stress and tension.
Instead, ask yourself how each area can feed the others.
