One Apple A Day #312
“You can blow out a candle
But you can’t blow out a fire
Once the flames begin to catch
The wind will blow it higher”
Biko by Peter Gabriel
We all experience moments that light up a candle in our heart and in our life.
A journey, a retreat, a book, a moment with friends, a walk in nature, a powerful conversation, a workshop and so on.
All these moments take us outside our routine and, like the light of a candle, they make us see the extraordinary beauty that we hold inside.
But what happens when we go back to our routine with that candle?
Our limiting beliefs, the naysayers, the struggle of the daily life, the small difficulties we encounter every day, all of them start blowing at our candle until that small flame is gone.
Driven by the fear to lose that small light we hold it carefully, we hide it from the world to protect the feeble flame. And in doing so, we waste all that beautiful light.
The good news is that you can’t blow out a fire.
Once the flames have started then the wind, no matter how strong, will blow it higher and higher.
Anytime someone or something light up a candle in your life, instead of thinking about how to protect it, ask yourself a powerful question.
How can I use this candle’s flame to start a fire?
