One Apple A Day #30
“I want a horse!” she’s almost screaming now. I’ve been watching the scene for a while. I should be writing right now but this battle between the girl and her father is magnetic. At least I think he is the father.
“A horse? Really? Why not a unicorn?”
“You’re mocking me now. You think I’m stupid. You always thought I’m stupid”
She’s sobbing now. It’s getting more and more interesting.
“Oh come on, don’t do that. You know it’s not true. It’s just … a horse … I can’t buy you a horse”
“Why not? You bought that stupid car for your girl” She says the word girl like if she was licking a lemon.
“What? So, this is the point. All this talking, these requests. It’s about Jane.”
“She’s more important to you than your only daughter!”
“You know it’s not true. You’re everything to me”
“So why you can’t buy me a horse but you can give her a new cabrio?”
“It’s complicated”
“Ah, you adults. When you don’t know what to say it’s always complicated”
The girl just scored a point. I wouldn’t want to be in that father’s shoes.
“And what this is supposed to mean? You’re 20, you’re not a kid anymore. I’m paying for the school, I’m paying for your expensive clothes. You’re an adult too!”
“Oh, so I’m not your baby anymore? She replaced mum and now she’s replacing me too”
“What? You’re way out of line now girl. I don’t like they you’re talking to me. I’m still your father. I deserve respect!”
“Respect?” She’s laughing now. Oh man, you’re really on a slippery road now.
Then the blow hit me. It’s like a sting in my left shoulders. An intense moment of pain and now it’s burning. I’m an idiot. I should see it coming. They played me. The old trick of the illusionists. Create a distraction while you make the magic.
