One Apple A Day #277
Choice of where to put your attention innovates.
I firmly believe in the power of gaze. As I described on one of my posts on Medium, we always go in the direction we are looking at. If we are not aware of this, we can be caught in the “target fixation” phenomena and derailed from our goals. Or even worst, we may not see them.
Choosing where to put our attention is vital because our energy flows in the direction of our attention.
Innovation is about changing something that exists to create something new and different. To do so, we must be able to challenge the status quo, see the possibilities and experiment. The choice of where to put our attention is a the core of all these activities. If we keep our attention on what exists, on the visible data and the metrics we won’t be able to see other possibilities. We have to deliberately shift our focus on the space in between, on the missing information, on the way out and forward from the what exists.
