One Apple A Day #270
We perceive the world not as it is but as we are. Our beliefs, assumptions, biases and fears define how we see reality. Our mind continuously adapt the outside world to our inner truth, to make sense of it.
This process, however necessary for our brain to function, limits our ability to see the whole picture.
For this reason, it is essential to be open to different perspectives. If you stare at a statue from the front, you miss a lot of beautiful details. This is why we walk around, and we look at it from different angles.
This is how our eyes and ears work. If you keep on eye close for a while, the world becomes flat. You will lose the ability to perceive the depth of things. Because we have two eyes, separated by few centimetres, our mind receives two images with two slightly different perspectives. It is combining the two perspectives that the brain gives substance to what we see. It gains the sense of depth.
Moving our head and our body we can gain new perspectives and make the perception of reality richer and fuller. Though, we are still limited by our ability to move in the space.
It is when we embrace the perspectives of others that we can access the unlimited richness of the world.
