One Apple A Day #257
What do you do when you are scared of something?
If it’s a real danger, probably the best option is to run or hide.
It’s cool to say “face your fear” or “happiness is on the other side of fear”. But if you are in the woods and a big bear is running towards you, I would say that happiness is as far as possible from that place.
But if we can’t understand if the danger is real? A lot of our fears are emotional. The fear of not being loved. The fear of missing out on something. The fear of being forgotten. In these cases, the only thing at risk is our ego, not our safety.
It’s still fear. And we usually run or hide. Sometimes we try to convince ourselves that there is nothing to be afraid of.
But those fears are great opportunities to grow. You can still hide, feeling safe is essential. But once you are safe, ask yourself “why?”. Where does that fear come from? Why am I so scared?
Most of the time those fears are like the black man that was waiting in the shadow of our bedroom when we were kids. If you turn the light on the source of that fear, it disappears.
