One Apple A Day #255
Why? Do you ever ask yourself why you do what you do?
We often ask others, that’s easier. But most of the time the question carries some judgement of a sort. We ask “Why are you doing that?” but what we want to say is “you’re doing something wrong or stupid, don’t you see it?”.
It’s a shame, because asking why is a unique opportunity to learn. I love when kids challenge me with all their why’s. Those why are light; they don’t carry judgement but only candid curiosity. They force me to think and reflect.
Today, I woke up thinking that I haven’t asked myself a why question for a while.
When was the last time you ask yourself “why?”. Without judgement. Just the sincere curiosity of a kid.
Why am I doing this? Why am I here?
Powerful questions, indeed. Probably this is why we avoid them.
What if I can’t answer? What if I don’t like the answer?
One of the reasons that make this question so scary is that we ask ourselves “why” only when something is wrong in our life. When we are unhappy or unsatisfied, the question becomes challenging and full of self-blame. We must explore our why’s more often.
That’s why I decided I’m going to make a habit of asking myself “why?” every morning, on the good and bad day.
