One Apple A Day #249
It’s all about people.
I read this sentence year ago in a book I can’t remember.
But this sentence stuck with me.
A few days ago, I was chatting with friends about our past travelling adventures.
We were sharing some funny —vat least now, not so much at the time — encounters we had with bureaucracy while entering and leaving some countries.
In all our stories there was a common element, people.
A single person can take you out of an awful situation or can make your life hell.
I remember our first impact with Kuwait. We were moving there, so our cat was travelling with us. We did all the paperwork before the trip and a person, sent by the vet, was waiting for us at the exit. Unfortunately, something went wrong, and the police didn’t allow us to walk out with our cat. We had to send him through the goods custom.
It was the beginning of a 5 hours nightmare. In a country we don’t know, we had to talk with 12 different offices without knowing a word in Arabic. It’s still one of the most terrible experience I had so far. But a person changed everything.
The guy sent by the vet, instead of delivering the documents and leave, remained with us all night. He talked on my behalf with all the officials. He helped us fill in all the papers. And he kept smiling all the time and reassuring us that everything would be ok. He even drove us to our house in the end. He transformed a terrible experience in a beautiful memory.
That day I learned never to underestimate the impact our actions can have on the life of someone else.
