One Apple A Day #240
“Productivity, in economics, is the amount of output created produced per unit input used.” - Wikipedia
I had never seen myself as a productive guy. In our society, where everything is based on productivity and efficiency, my weakness on these aspect doesn’t contribute to my self-esteem. So, two years ago I set out to solve this issue and become more productive.
I believed that improving my productivity, I would have reached the success I wanted for myself.
On Amazon, there are 31,374 books about “productivity” and almost four thousand about “personal productivity”. Online there are plenty of classes teaching you how to be more productive.
It is indeed a relevant topic. I just had to find the right resources.
So, I read a few of those books and completed a few online courses. I learned strategies and acquired tools to improve my productivity. And it worked, I improved my productivity. But, surprise, the success I thought would have come with the increased productivity didn’t show up.
What happened?
I made the mistake of misleading results for success. Improving your productivity only increase the amount of output created per input used, where the inputs are your time, energy and skills. In other words, it improves your results. But results and success are not the same things.
Success is not about doing more with less. Is about doing something that really matters to you. Something that gives meaning to your life and fulfils your purpose.
All the results of the world won’t make you feel successful if they don’t help you fulfil your purpose.
