One Apple A Day #225
I am always surprised at how things connect.
Two days ago I was reading a few articles about learning a post I’m writing. From there, I don’t remember which links I follow; I ended up reading about the Johari window for the first time. It’ a fascinating framework to help people understand themselves.
Today, while I was reading a book about liminal thinking, it was there. The same framework was described in the book as a relevant tool for liminal thinking.
And I thought, wow. Is this a kind of magic? I haven’t heard about the Johari window for 43 years, and in two days I crossed it twice in my studies.
I don’t believe there’s any magic at play, but undoubtedly our mind plays some magical tricks.
Because we can put our attention only on a tiny fraction of what our senses perceive, we filter everything, and our mind continually looks for connections to be able to understand the world. And this is what happens. I probably crossed that same framework plenty of time in the past but it wasn’t relevant, so I never noticed it consciously. Now, it is very relevant for my studies, and it is precisely in the spotlight of my attention beam. And I saw it, finding the connections.
It is essential to choose wisely where do we put our attention but also to be always aware that we are keeping out the vast majority of what our senses perceive. That is already a fraction of reality.
