One Apple A Day #224
Torres del Paine, January 12th, 2017
The wind blows strong as if it wants to reshape the space. We can’t keep a straight position while we walk and for a while, we think that leaving the car was a stupid decision.
But then we start playing with it, and out inner kids burst out with all their joyous silliness.
If someone is watching from a spy satellite, they would see two kids in bright green jackets jumping around with the arms wide open to see who can make the longest jump. And yes, we also try peeing with the tailwind in our favour to see how far we can go.
This wind is so strong it pushes us straight back to our adolescence.
When we arrive at the viewing point, we are in awe. Before us the whole massif of Torres del Paine. It is beautiful and scary at the same time.
When we are back to the comfort of Cricchetta, we realise that we need to find a place for the night. We both agree that we are not going back to the new hotels with the fake pizza, but we also know that the guy owns everything in that small town. So we head to Puerto Natales, 60 km to the South, hoping to find something there because Google says there’s nothing else before.
But, our luck works better than Google, and we find a small hotel on the road just 20 minutes after we left. A lovely countryside lodge named Hotel 3 Pasos. When we cross the threshold a roaring fire, a smiling lady and tiny dog welcome us in paradise.
From our room’s windows, we can see the mountains that we are going to hike tomorrow, and nothing else. A small corner of peace just outside the main road.
