Question #03: What Does Your Ideal Day Look Like?
Studying coaching, I realised how much time I wasted thinking about problems to solve. I always considered myself a problem solver. The “there’s no problem, only a new solution yet to find” guy.
So, anytime I met an obstacle in my life, I used to give it all my attention and focus until I could find a solution. I loved to analyse and dissect the problem, to look at it from all different angles. Solving a problem has always been a fascinating challenge for me. I loved it, I still do. Nevertheless, a lot of time I didn’t feel satisfied once I had solved the problem. I have often found myself in the “yes, cool, so now what?” kind of mood.
Sometimes we focus so much on the obstacle in front of us that we forget what’s waiting on the other side. If your goal is solving the problem, once is solved you will be left with a quick burst of enjoyment and the desire to find a new problem to solve. But if you focus on the happy ending, on the beautiful life on the other side of the obstacle, when you are through you will be in your dream. And this is more rewarding.
If you want a better life, don’t look for what’s not working or what is missing. You may solve the problems or find what you miss, and still fill empty. Focus on your ideal day, on your dream life and keep your focus on that. You will discover that some problems don’t need to be solved. And those things you don’t have are not so important.
Visualise when you want to go and will find more opportunities to overcome the obstacles and go there.
