One Apple A Day #161
El Buho Blanco, January 4th, 2017
We are still emotional from the encounter with the “Km 1974” sign. We realise how magical this all adventure is, so we choose, from now on, to trust the road and our intuition.
We don’t know what lays ahead in our journey, but we feel it is going to be great if we keep our mind and heart open to every possibility.
The scenario around us is breathtaking. The dark lake on our right, green mountains in every direction and white clouds in a deep blue sky. But it’s not a still picture. The mighty wind of Patagonia dominates every other element. It lashed the surface of the lake creating and destroying white waves like if it doesn’t know what to draw, it makes the trees dance bending and bowing to an unknown music, and it forces the clouds to run without respite reshaping them in all different forms.
There are moments when we think it’s all a movie or a dream, so we have to open the window of Crichetta to listen to the wind blowing and to get some cold air in the car.
It is true.
It’s almost midday when we see a sign indicating a “hosteria” called Buho Blanco (The white owl) up on the mountain on the left. We don’t even have to talk about it. It is a go.
We have to drive up to a steep and narrow road before we find the hosteria. It is a wooden house, with a porch and small yard on the front. It is cold and windy, so there is only one car in the parking space. When we step out of the car, cover like two men ready to cross the Arctic, a wild dog welcomes us.
Like a perfect host, it guides us to the entrance of the place, under the porch.
Inside we are met by the friendly owner, who tells us that there is no electric power, so it’s a bit cold. But he can give us two good beers and something to eat. What’s more?
Unfortunately, it is too cold, rainy and windy to enjoy the patio on the back facing the valley, but the view from the window is stunning.
We just started our journey, and we already feel like we are where we have always meant to be.
