One Apple A Day #156
Bariloche Airport, January 3rd, 2017
After almost 30 hours of travelling, we finally are in San Carlos de Bariloche, the starting point of our adventure.
Once we have our bags, we head out to find out the guy who will give us the truck we will use to drive to Ushuaia.
Let us go back for a second to last October, when we were organising all the details of this trip. Considering the length of the journey, about 3500 kilometres according to the maps, and the fact that parts of the Ruta40 are still white roads we decided to rent a reliable truck. We also thought that we might want to explore the areas outside the main roads, so we decided to invest a bit more, and we rented a 4x4. There was plenty of options online but, because January is high season, we struggled to find the perfect balance between having a good truck and avoiding to dry out all our budget on it.
In the end, we opted for an agency in Bariloche with offices in all the major places in Patagonia. They offered a good deal for the rental of a new and sturdy pickup.
The airport of Bariloche is quite small, and in a few minutes, we are outside talking with the guy who’s giving us all the documents to sign. As soon as we stepped outside, a robust and chilly wind welcomes us. Luckily, because everyone has told us about the Patagonia’s wind, we were prepared for it with out windproof jackets.
What we weren’t prepared for is the truck waiting for us in the parking lot.
