One Apple A Day #151
Ann entered the house running and shouting.
“It’s coming. It’s coming”
Jane raised her head from the book she was reading. She stared at her sister, without saying a word. She never spoke much, but she always had that ability to communicate just looking at you. It was like she was able to create words in the mind of everyone just looking at them. Most of the people in the village thought she was born a bit crazy. And the loss of their parents, a few years before, had made her even weirder. But Ann knew that her sister was no fool. She was smart and determined. She didn’t like to chat, but that was ok with her. Ann can talk for both of them, and she was always able to understand what Jane wanted to communicate.
“The hurricane is coming. We don’t have much time. I went to Mike’s store. On TV they said that it is moving towards our town and it will be here before midday.”
Ann saw the sparkle in Jane’s eyes. It was just a moment, but she knew what her sister was thinking.
“It’s not exciting Jane! It’s dangerous! We need to close all the doors and windows. Move our stuff into the shelters and hide until is gone.”
But Jane wasn’t listening anymore. She put the book aside and walked to the porch. She could hear Ann closing all the windows on the back while shouting something at her. But she wasn’t listening.
Her mind was captured by the incredible show before her eyes. The sky was getting darker and darker. The wind was shaking the trees of the wood over the hills. The first loaded drops of rain were bouncing on the roof. Lightning was cracking the sky. And in the middle, the tornado was getting bigger. And it was calling her.
