One Apple A Day #150
Autumn, 2016
To be honest, we didn’t put much effort in the preparation of the journey. Partially because we were busy living our day to day lives, and partially because we didn’t have a clue about what we were setting up ourselves to.
We spent some time to find the best solution for the car rental because that was essential for a road trip. We opted for a pickup, we evaluated a few options, and we picked what we thought was the best. We were wrong and right at the same time as we were going to discover later.
As for the rest of the preparation, the best word to describe it is “improvisation”. We didn’t know what we were going to need in Patagonia because we had no plans at all. So, we asked someone who did something similar in the past, we read some blog, and we bought things online just because we liked them.
The result is the following list of stuff that we were proud of:
One big backpack (60 lt) or a big bag to carry all our stuff, this one would be the checked baggage;
A small backpack (12-25 lt) for hiking
Two pairs of long trousers, one for trekking and one for leisure
One pair of shorts
Seven t-shirts
Two long sleeves t-shirts
2 sweaters
a goose down waistcoat
gloves
Underwear and socks for five days with a mix of summer and all seasons gears.
One waterproof and wind stop jacket. We were so proud of the ones we bought from Patagonia. Same colour, an acid yellow just to make ourselves very recognisable.
Waterproof trousers
Hiking boots
Sneakers
Flip-flops
A wool hat
Sunscreen and moisturizing creams
A microfiber towel
Patches for blisters
A Swiss Army knife, an electric torch and a piece of rope (for the feeling of adventure)
Five pairs of shades because style is important
Obviously, we bought almost everything last minute and some of the stuff came from Amazon the day before the departure. But it contributed to the feeling of adventure. We also learned some Spanish. We thought it might help to interact with the locals. And absolutely no physical training.
By the end of the year, we were ready.
