One Apple A Day #144
Do you really want to be free?
Sometimes I ask it to the face I see in the mirror.
Are you sure? Why? Why do you want to be free?
Freedom means that you are the one in charge of your life. You have to make the decisions. You have to act. You are responsible for what you do.
That’s a lot to take on your shoulders. So, why?
And even if you accept all that responsibility, are you sure you will be free?
Pause.
Yes. I want freedom. I want choices. I want the power to decide. I want the responsibility that comes with it.
We often mislead freedom with the possibility to do everything you want. But that’s not true. That means being a god, if you believe in it.
There is this little thing called reality in which you live, move and act. In this reality there are limitations. You can’t touch your ear with your tongue, even if you truly want it. Does this make you less free?
There are plenty of boundaries and limitations, both in the physical world outside there and in the nonphysical inside our mind.
You have your scars, your mental pattern, you physical abilities, strengths and weakness. Being free means to be aware of all of this and then act accordingly. It’s not about having no limits. It is about knowing those limits and don’t let them stop you from having control of your life. It is about being aware of who you are, stop blaming something or someone (including you) for that and take ownership of your actions. Don’t let life happen, create it.
This is freedom. This is what I want for me.
