One Apple A Day #129
“Where do you find inspiration to write every day?”
A dear friend asked me this while we were walking and talking about creativity, discipline and inspiration.
My answer was that I don’t find inspiration, I create it. I know, it is counterintuitive. She was perplexed too. Inspiration is the spark that kindles the creative process, not the other way round.
I view this project, the One Apple A Day writing practice, in the same way, I manage my fitness plan. I want to become a better writer. To do so, I have to improve my technique, my knowledge, my creativity and my inspiration. To improve my creative fitness, I do the same things I do to improve my body fitness.
Better food and daily training.
The first step of every program to improve your physical shape is to change your diet for better. I did the same with my mind. I feed my thoughts with better input. I removed news, social media and mindless entertainment from my morning routine. I start the day watching inspirational videos, reading books, educational articles, meditating, watching nature. These things boost my mind with creativity, positivity and energy. All ingredients to nurture my inspiration.
Then I train. I write, every day for fifteen minutes or so. Enough to see some progress but not too much to burn me out.
Through this daily practice, I’m training my mind to be more receptive and to create the space for the inspiration to flow.
