One Apple A Day #128
“è solo un uomo quello di cui parlo
quando inciampa nella sua ombra
quando cammina sull'acqua e non affonda
è solo un uomo quello di cui canto
di quando sbaglia e non si perdona
il furore e il disincanto di quell'universo
a forma di persona” — from Solo un uomo by Nicoló Fabi
I love this song. I love almost every song of Nicoló. I’m in awe any time I encounter such an incredible capacity to create a compelling image with only a few words.
I think it all comes down to my passion for simplicity and minimalism. Being able to remove all the layers covering the true meaning of things to let it shines.
In my email signature, I use a quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the author famous for The Little Prince.
“Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add,
but rather when there is nothing more to take away. ”
Let’s go back to that bit of an Italian song I shared at the beginning. Let me try to translate it for you before I focus on the part that gives me goosebumps anytime I listen to that song.
“It’s just a man I talk about
When he stumbles in his shadow
When he walks on water without sinking
It’s just a man I sing about
When he is wrong and does not forgive himself
The fury and disillusion of that universe
in the shape of a person.”
The last two lines are my preferred ones. The idea that every human being is a universe and, like the universe, I will never be able to grasp its vastity, diversity and richness. There will always be something new to discover about every person I know. Including myself.
My suggestion is for you to be curious. To be an astronaut of the soul, an explorer of the galaxies, stars and worlds within every person you meet. But in particular yourself.
The more you become aware of the universe within you the more you will be able to relate with the uniqueness of the others.
You can listen to the song here.
