Today I want to explore presence.
Being present in any context or situation makes all difference in the world. It expands our attention, amplifies our senses, and stretches time and space.
It is like a superpower. One that, however, requires a lot of energy.
Since an inspiring conversation a few days ago, I've been mulling about the balance between people and processes. As a facilitator, I always have to navigate this polarity. On one side, I need to be present to the process because it increases the probability of getting somewhere and reaching the desired outcome. On the other side, people make anything happen. I must be present to them and what is moving within and between them because there lie the most powerful opportunities.
Maybe one day, I'll reach the level where I can hold both these poles in my awareness, but for now, I have to deal with this tension. That's why I love to facilitate with someone else.
However, while I was reflecting on this, other poles emerged. What about being present to myself and my principles? That, too, is important.
Also, what about all the other moments in my life? What am I being present to when I'm with my family or friends?
Just by asking that question, the quality of my presence in any situation improves.
I know that one day the distance between these parts will dissolve if I keep expanding my awareness through the practice of subtraction.
P.S. This is the apple number 1200! Quite a milestone. So, I wonder if it's time to make some tweaks, like swapping the title and subtitle to give more visibility to the post's subject instead of the number.
Dear reader, what do you think?
